KIMU 7 years exhibition: PURE
2020 is KIMU's 7th anniversary. We decided to hold a small retrospective exhibition on the occasion when the New Old Divider was born.
In addition to showing our appreciation to the friends who have been supporting KIMU, it is also a chance for us to review our original intention. After deciding on “material” as the theme of the exhibition, we walked into our sample room and reviewed all of the works in the past such as the experiments with different materials and shapes and prototypes...Each has its own story which marks KIMU precious history as a young entrepreneur.

Raw materials are always the inspirations of KIMU.
Simple but thoughtful silhouettes are what we have been insisting on.
We value ordinary daily objects that can create new possibilities when it is positioned in the right place.
It takes us nearly two years to find the hinge of the Reveal Container. Thanks to MoMA who believes in us, finally we are inspired by the fire barrier for camping and successfully manufacture the Reveal Container, now selected and sold in MOMA.
Many people thought it was a special design, but in fact it is a beautiful mistake caused by delivery.
When we unpacked the package delivered from Milan, we found these two distorted vases snuggle up close to one another while the box is not damaged at all.
The base of Twirl Timepiece NTCH is a remake of the stage floor
National Theater & Concert Hall Upcycle Project
When we realized the stage floor of National Theater & Concert Hall is about to be demolished after 30 years, we decided to reuse the materials in our design to continue their life journeys. The concept of KIMU Twirl Timepiece is exactly the same as that of the stage, so we changed the original material and size to customize a special edition, dedicating to those who have connected with the stage. However, the demolition is way more difficult than what we have expected, not only the molds but also the machines are damaged, as a result, each piece is very precious since the amount of the final production is difficult to estimate and is very small.

KIMU's most renowned product, the New Old Light spends the most time in testing materials and sampling. During that moment, we have tried wooden molds, plastic vacuum forming and metal then we found the perfect look. We still remembered during our first exhibition in Paris, an old French gentleman stayed in front of the New Old Light for quite a while and kept saying “le petit prince.” He told us the New Old Light reminded him of the planets in the book Le Petit Prince, which floated elegantly.
The highlight of the exhibition: The New Old Divider
The New Old Divider can be regarded as the most mature work of KIMU. We have been through the ups and downs, many challenges and even think about giving it up. However, all the chaos is finally settled down and transformed into a design piece that shines subtly.
During the exhibition we received so many compliments about the quality of the New Old Divider which really moved us and made us more confident in meeting the new challenges of the next seven year. Thanks to our friends who have been supporting us from the crowdfunding campaign to the 7th year exhibition, without you we could not present the best of KIMU fearlessly.
